Bangladesh: Call for Assistanceby - 09.08.2004 13:44 Call for assistance for the devastating flood affected people Dear people,
You are well aware of the fact that millions of people in the country are worse affected in the recent flood. At different places till now people remained marooned in sub-human lives. They are undergoing acute sufferings because of scarcity of food cereal, pure drinking water, and medicine. Tens of thousands of people have become utterly ruined losing all their belongings and seasonal crops. From the very beginning of the flood till now, more than 700 people died lack of proper managements of the administration. Millions of people are afflicted with water borne diseases. Foreseeing the intensity of the flood the government should have called upon all the strata of the people to stand by the flood affected people from the very start of the flooding. But it is unfortunate that they made the call so late. Moreover, it further made the initiative of collective efforts of the people controversial and obstructed by making various negative comments in different dailies. Nevertheless, in such a great disaster of humanity we come forward to help the flood affected people from the sense of our moral responsibilities coping with all impediments. For this purposes we formed a "Relief Fund Committee". We decided to conduct these relief activities by taking assistance and co-operation from sympathizers and well-wishers in society due to our own limited financial resources. We are, by and large, getting positive responses from sympathetic people. Primarily we targeted Bhurungamari Thana under Kurigram district under our relief operation. Depending on circumstances of the mobilization of fund we would like to extend our relief activities up to Netrokona, Mymensingh, Kishorgonj and Comilla. We extremely expect you to contribute to our relief fund and we would be thankful to you for your contribution to be given. We will provide with appropriate documents to you later about the information of the use of contributions in order for ensuring the transparency.
