Am 27. Dezember 2008 begann die israelische Luftwaffe den Gazastreifen anzugreifen. In den Wochen darauf folgten Vorstöße von Panzer- und Infanterieverbänden. Bis Ende Januar 2009 zerstörte die israelische Armee einen erheblichen Teil der Infrastruktur und der Gebäude im Gazastreifen, über 1300 Menschen sind durch den Angriff ums Leben gekommen, Tausende wurden verletzt. Der überwiegende Teil der Kriegsopfer sind ZivilistInnen. Weltweit protestierten Hunderttausende gegen diesen Krieg. Die Reaktion der Linken in Deutschland allerdings blieb uneinheitlich und sehr schwach. Vor allem unter diesem Gesichtspunkt werden in folgendem Artikel einige Hintergründe und Aspekte des Konflikts erörtert.

Many protests were organised during the G8 Summit in Japan. The summit took place in Toyako on the island Hokkaido, a demonstration was organized on July 4th in Sapporo.

Between 500,000 and 1 million people filled the streets of downtown Los Angeles, USA, on March 25th, 2006 to protest the anti-immigrant bill HR4437, which would make all 12 million undocumented people in the United States into felons as well as anyone who aids undocumented people in any way. Families, labor, civic, religious and political groups came out strong in a mostly Latino demonstration, overwhelming all the organizers' expectations. City officials are saying it is the largest demonstration they have ever seen.
