Two days after Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans, the Walgreen's store at the corner of Royal and Iberville streets remained locked. The dairy display case was clearly visible through the widows. It was now 48 hours without electricity, running water, plumbing. The milk, yogurt, and cheeses were beginning to spoil in the 90-degree heat. The owners and managers had locked up the food, water, pampers, and prescriptions and fled the City. Outside Walgreen's windows, residents and tourists grew increasingly thirsty and hungry.

The King of Nepal, Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev, has dissolved the coalition government of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, accusing it of factional fighting and failing in its duty to protect democracy. Several key political figures in the old coalition have been put under house arrest.

5 years have passed since the protests against the conference of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) in Seattle - and the first time the movement against capitalism was noticed by the mainstream media world-wide. Since May 1998 in Geneva, Global Action Days were taking place on five different continents after decades and centuries of struggles against colonialism and neo-colonialism, against big dams, against the IMF, World Bank, the G8, etc.

On June 26th, 2004, a trial will start against the policemen involved in raiding the Diaz school in Genoa. At the same time, there will be an anti-repression week-end in Geneva, as a hearing starts on June 28th against activists on the Aubonne bridge during the protests against the G8 summit in Evian.

People's Global Action has called for international days of activism against capitalism in conjunction with the G8 protests in Georgia. PGA is the international network which called for the J18 and N30/Seattle protests in 1999. Anti-capitalist groups in Britain are organizing local solidarity events. Infoshop urges North American activists to organize decentralized anti-capitalist events and actions.

From May 28-29th 2004 there were several protests against the Third summit of Latin American, Caribbean and European Union states in Guadalajara, Mexico. Several protesters were injured and others detained. There was a call for an international action day for the liberation of the arrested activists on June 4th.

The focus would be on grassroots movements and agriculture, in preparation for the PGA Asia and Gender conference in May 2004.

At the European Social Forum in Paris, there was a workshop on Radical Theory, and subsequently, a mailing-list was created. The group intends to publish a "Radical Theory Journal" which will be neither academic, nor activist. It will try to create a tension laden and dynamic new form of theory informed by action that arises from, helps to understand and bring benefit to the altermondialiste movements.

La primer gran protesta conocida contra la OMC fue la de 1999 en Seattle, Estados Unidos.Una multitud diversa de activistas, anarquistas, ecologistas, sindicalistas , estudiantes, y un sin fin mas de individuos y organizaciones se manifiestaron en las callles de Seattle,y lograron el fracaso de la conferencia de la OMC. Las imagenes de la brutalidad policiaca contra manifestantes indefensos se ven en todo el mundo, y generan simpatia y respeto.

Las masivas movilizaciones y el fracaso de la reunión de la Organización Mundial de Comercio (OMC) en Seattle (Noviembre de 1999) [1] marcan un punto central de la perdida de la legitimidad política de las instituciones al servicios del poder transnacional. La critica y las renuncias de profesionales de esas mismas instituciones, como Ravi Kanbur, Joseph Stiglitz, y otras criticas desde los espacios académicos tradicionales como las ejercidas por Paul Krugman, Dani Rodrik, I.Chang, son parte del proceso de perdida de la legitimidad intelectual desde adentro de ese poder. El reciente triunfo de ?Lula? en las elecciones brasileñas parece ser el inicio de un periodo de derrotas político electorales y rechazo al modelo neoliberal.
