From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2003, about 70 demonstrators convened outside the Immigration and Naturalization Services building at 16th and Callowhill Streets, Philadelphia, for an emergency rally called by Refuse and Resist!, the Blue Triangle Network, and the Not in Our Name Network. They were protesting the new mandatory "Special Registration" of citizens and nationals of Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Eritrea, Lebanon, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Somalia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Sudan and Syria who are living in the USA. Hundreds of foreign nationals have already been detained when they came to register at INS centers. |
