Jugoremedija: Privatization Corruption

by source: alter-EE, dnevnik - 08.08.2004 13:40

Officials of the Macedonian firm, Jaka 80, once a majority stockholder in a privatized Serbian firm, are planning to charge a number of current and former Serbian government officials with slander in a privatization deal, again, which didn’t quite meet EU standards in Serbia.

Privatization Corruption and Aftereffects now Crossing Borders:

Radovis - Macedonian firm Jaka 80 plans to file suit against number of
Serbian government officials for causing damage to the firm while it was
purchasing Jugoremedia, of Zrenjanin. General Director of Jugoremedia,
Alexandar Radovanovic says that the suit will be filed due to irresponsible statements made during the privatization of Jugoremedia, in which Jaka 80 had purchased 41.93% of stock two years previously.

Charges will be filed against the Director of the Serbian Stock Fund
Alexandar Gracanac, against Assistant Minister of Business Zora Simovic, and against the president of the Commission for the Fight Against Corruption Verica Barac. Charges will also be filed against the former Minister of Business Draga Marsicanin and Mira Prokopijevic, member of the Commission for Stock Exchange.

The privatization of Jugoremedia took place two years ago, and the transaction was annulled last week as terms of the original purchase agreement had been violated. The Serbian Stock fund annulled the privatization and voided the agreement selling Jugoremedia to Jaka 80. The
Fund voided the agreement as Jaka 80 had not fulfilled the agreement by
failing to provide enough bank guarantees as proof of investment. The owner of Jaka 80, Serbian businessman Jovica Stefanovic Nini is a former supporter
of Vanco Ciflganec.

At the press conference in Zrenjanin, representatives of Jugoremedia accused
the director of the Stock Fund of annulling the same privatization that, in
January, he called the ‘cleanest privatization in Serbia.’
