what?

to be installed in porto alegre, 26th-31st january 2005 to bring struggles together, radicalize the resistance to capitalism and reclaim the world social forum.

what for?

through a programme of workshops and process meetings, this year's caracol aims at facilitating groups with similar or different projects to find their overlaps and ways of cooperating with each other. over the last years we have been everywhere, we have listened, spoken, learnt and taught. now what we want is beyond just a space, or an encounter; we want to think about the future: to plan, to collectively organize common projects, made of people, knowledge, hope and solidarity the living matter of our strength in the years to come.

how?

-- workshops: spaces of skill-sharing and exchange of experiences. the first round (two days) will bring together groups that work on similar areas (non-violent direct action, tactical media, occupations, art activism, land issues, ecology, .). during these days, we'll be discussing projects that we already have or want to start, and looking for concrete ways of linking them up and cooperating. the second round two days) will bring together groups from different areas, and trying to find ways of crossing the different projects for example, a tactical media campaign on gmos, art activism in urban or rural occupations, development of communication tools for popular movements etc.

-- actions: direct actions in porto alegre and the territory of the wsf, with space to coordinate different tactics and characteristics, where we can try out new alliances, know each other, develop trust, solidarity and radicality.

-- process meetings: report back about the ideas that have come up at the workshops, and evaluate the way things are going and propose solutions for the continuity of the experience.

some ideas/ projects already proposed have been around: direct action and the criminalization of protests, reappropriation and occupations, precarity, tactical media, activist research/ research activism. the list will only be closed after we start (or finish).

how to take part?

we invite all before coming to porto alegre to post their projects, ideas and proposals on the wiki (newsproject.omweb.org) or to send them to intergalactika at riseup.net. you can also join the list: caracolintergalactika at lists.riseup.net

where?

our central coordinate in the small temporary global territory of the forum will be the 'periphery', a stretch of land between the youth camp and the official spaces of the wsf.

why at the wsf?

especially for those in latin america, the opportunity the wsf offers is unique: that of meeting or re-encountering people like us, who do similar things in entirely different ways, from close or far. we want to be with these people, and ask questions, and find answers together.

why?

because resistance, the one which is everywhere, is our knowledge and our art; because we need to recognize each other in our struggles; because we have to keep on creating the ground on which we can and must grow together; because in struggle we want to experiment with another world.

because struggle is the only one that creates worlds.

o que?

a se instalar en porto alegre, del 26 al 31 enero 2005 para conectar luchas, radicalisar la resistencia al capitalismo y reivindicar el foro social mundial.

para que?

a través de talleres, acciones y reuniones de proceso, el caracol de este año intentará facilitar a grupos con proyectos similares o diferentes el encontrar sus puntos de contacto y maneras de cooperar entre sí, entrelazando en su andar circular nuestros deseos y nuestras voces: los ecos que nos resuenan desde el norte, desde el este, desde el sur, desde el oeste de ese gran territorio global en el que estamos situados/inmersos día a día. en los últimos años estuvimos en muchas partes, escuchamos, hablamos, aprendimos y enseñamos. lo que queremos ahora se encuentra más allá de un espacio o de un evento, queremos pensar el futuro: hacer planes, proponernos organizar colectivamente los proyectos que vamos a desarrollar y que serán hechos de gente, saberes, esperanzas, solidaridad: la materia viva de nuestra fuerza en los años que vendrán; la manera de seguir ampliando nuestra resistencia.

como?

-- los talleres: espacios de cambio de saberes y experiencias. la primera ronda, de dos días, será entre grupos que trabajan en áreas similares acción directa no-violenta, midia táctica, ocupaciones, arte-activismo, tierra, ecologia...). en esta parte estaremos discutiendo proyectos que ya tenemos o que queremos empezar, y buscando formas concretas de cooperación entre ellos. la segunda ronda, también de dos días, será entre grupos con áreas de actuación diferente, donde vamos a piensar maneras de cruzar los proyectos por ejemplo, un acción de midia tatica sobre los transgenicos, acciones de arte-activismo en ocupaciones urbanas o rurales, desarrollo de herramientas de comunicación para movimientos populares etc.

-- acciones: acciones directas en la ciudad de porto alegre y en el territorio fsm, donde haya espacio para coordinar distintas tácticas, ideas y características, donde se puedan experimentar nuevas alianzas, conocerse mutuamente, desarrollar confianza, solidariedad y radicalidad.

-- reuniones de proceso: para reunir ideas que hayan surgido en los talleres y discutir las mejores formas de llevar las actividades del caracol, organizar los proyectos que hayan aparecido, y proponer soluciones para la continuidad de la experiencia.

algunas ideas/ proyectos que se han propuesto hasta ahora son en temas como: accion directa y criminalizacion de la protesta, reapropriacion y ocupaciones, precariedad, medios tacticos, investigacion activista/activismo de investigacion... la lista cerra solo cuando empezaremos (o terminaremos).

porque la resistencia, esa que está en todas partes, es nuestro conocimiento, nuestro arte; porque necesitamos reconocernos en nuestras luchas; porque necesitamos seguir encontrando el terreno donde podemos y debemos crecer juntos, y organizarnos; porque en la lucha deseamos experimentar otro mundo.

porque solo la lucha produce mundos.
