On 21 April 2008 in Berlin, there was a small rally in front of the Mexican embassy to protest the recent assassinations of two radio journalists, Teresa Bautista
Merino (24 years old) and Felícitas Martínez Sánchez (20 years old).

in the Triqui community in the state of Oaxaca. The two women were shot and killed on their way to an indigenous were shot and murdered while on their way to Oaxaca city to
participate in the State Forum for the Defense of the Rights of the
Peoples of Oaxaca. The two women are radio journalists for convergence “La Voz que Rompe el Silencio (The Voice that Breaks the
Silence), in the autonomous municipality of San Juan Copala (Mixteca
region). The situation in Oaxaca is tense. Other assassinations occurred in the same week, an assassination of a politician of the left party.

The action was small but spirited. Activists held banners in front of the busy street. Several cars honked in support. They chanted “Oaxaca escucha Berlin es en tu lucha” and other slogans in solidarity with the movements in Oaxaca. They also read the callout from the grassroots movements in Mexico in German and Spanish over the megaphone. Two activists then went inside the embassy (escorted by police) and presented a letter of protest to the Mexican delegate. Demonstrators were interviewed and more information was included on a program for the online radio and Latin American news service Radio Onda. The activists decided to disperse at around 7pm.
