This year's World Social Forum was held in Nairobi Kenya, the first in the African continent. Many who participated in it have written their accounts of the Forum, and the significance to the movement building towards another, a better world. What seemed to be missing from the accounts I've read is that while we were in Nairobi, the US bombed the East African country Somalia in what was falsely justified as a move to eradicate Al Queda operatives in the Horn of Africa.
The Anti-Privatisation Forum Gears itself Up for the Human Rights Day Protest

Forty-seven years ago, on 21 March 1960, the apartheid police force killed 69 people and injured many peaceful protesters who were struggling against the apartheid pass laws and apartheid in general. The commemoration of the Sharpville Massacre became to be known as Sharpville Day. Sharpville Day is now called the Human Rights Day, a day in which South Africa is supposed to reflect on issues concerning all aspect of human rights.

Guinea Conakry: Strikes and Unrest

A general strike in January 2007 lasted for 18 days. At least 59 people were killed. The protesters called President Lansana Conte to resign. Conte has been in power since a coup in 1984. He agreed to appoint a consensus prime minister and lower fuel and rice prices in negotiations with the trade unions to end the strike. Another strike started when Conte did not keep his promise, again many people were killed or injured by gunfire, and Conte declared martial law.

More than 60000 participants were registered at the World Social Forum (WSF) in Nairobi, Kenya. This was the seventh edition of the WSF in parallel to the World Economic Forum in Davos (WEF). There was harsh criticism about exclusion during the WSF, and the Final Call of the Assembly of Social Movements mentioned too high prices for participants' fees and food. Even drinking water was sold at a price that was four times higher than usual.
