PGA / AMP / AGP Conference in Europe

Peoples' Global Action Conference in Europe
France/ Switzerland, 19th August - 3rd September 2006

PGA - People's Global Action - started in 1997. It has been a tool and a diffuse structure coordinating groups and people sharing common struggles and practices, in accordance with various anticapitalist and anti-authoritarian principles (see hallmarks). PGA initiated the Intercontinental caravan in 1999, as well as international action days of actions against the G8, the WTO, the World Bank, the IMF... In Seattle, Genoa, Prague, and in a number of less mediatic events, PGA was a driving force behind numerous actions and reflections. Amidst counter-summits, social forums & various actions, groups close to the PGA are now looking for new drives to challenge stagnation.

breaking the activist ghetto

workshop proposed for Belgrade PGA conference, July 2004

already in the 2nd european pga-conference in leiden the question
("how to break the activists ghetto?") was a crucial topic. we hope
and we want to contribute, that this debate will continue in the
coming conference in belgrade on different levels. on one hand we
are interested, for example, to participate in a follow-up-workshop,
which should raise the approaches of social or autonomous centers and
its relationships to the quarters or broader social realities in their
cities. on the other hand we want to propose and we would like to
prepare (together with other interested groups) another
two-parts-workshop under the headline of breaking the ghetto and with
the subtitle of "migration, labourstruggles and (re)appropriation".

The European Male

The feminist critique of European society has its roots in the bowels of the European tradition. The patriarchal nature of early Indo-European religion indicates more than a desire of men to dominate women. It also results from the association of "maleness" with superiority and "femaleness" with inferiority. Perhaps the earliest European definition of "self" and "other" was as male and female. In reaction to a more than 4000-year-old tradition of male control European feministsorganize for an end to female oppression. Some see the base of their movement in the equality of men and women, which they translate as "sameness". Others have developed a "feminist ideology", much of which uses the tenets of an African world-view as its foundation within the category of what Ruether calls "reform feminism", although they do not identify it as such.
