Biofuels: the illusion and the reality

source: TWR, 16.06.2007 17:36

There are attempts to foster the false belief that biofuels - fuels derived from plants - are the panacea for the world's energy crisis and global warming. While the rich countries which refuse to reconsider their unsustainable production and consumption patterns may take comfort from such an illusion, developing countries which recklessly embark on the large-scale cultivation of biofuel crops may be pursuing a dangerous and destructive course.

G8 plus 5 Climate Summit in Monterrey, Mexico

sources: various, 09.10.2006 18:15

For the past couple months, the exact location of the G8+5 Climate Summit in Mexico was unknown to Rising Tide North America organizers. Early sources said Mexico City, but this proved impossible to confirm. The G8+5 climate meeting fled to Monterrery, hundreds of miles away from the Alternative Climate Justice Dialogue and Convergence that we initiated and organized in Mexico City. We suspect that the G8+5 meeting was moved away from Mexico's capitol in order to avoid the sting of popular dissent, not just from us climate activists but more critically from the massive movements for democracy and justice that have convulsed Mexico in recent months and converged in Mexico City.

Once you've taken part in a Bioneers Conference, everything you do, from moment to moment and from day to day, has new meaning. Instead of taking yourself and the world for granted, you begin to recognize that with every step you take, everything you eat, everywhere you go, you are making a difference.

You are awakened to the power within yourself to make things happen. Your imagination begins to work overtime.

A Call for Worldwide Actions against Global Agri-Business
during the G8 Summit in June 2007

In June 2007, the political elite of the world's strongest economies (the group of G8 states) will meet in Germany at Heiligendamm near Rostock to coordinate their politics. A basic tenet of this is the creation and widening of better conditions for profit making by transnational companies from the North. At the same time, thousands of people will gather to demonstrate global resistance to exploitation, oppression and capitalism. One topic will be the global politics of agriculture, and in particular genetic technology.

Water Privatisation: World Bank, IMF, WTO

source: www.navdanya.org, www.vshiva.net, 10.09.2006 00:00

Giant water projects, in most cases, benefit the powerful, dispossess the weak. Even when such projects are publicly funded, their beneficiaries are mainly construction companies, industries, and commercial farmers. While privatization is generally couched in rhetoric about the disappearing role of the state, what we actually see is increased state intervention in water policy, subverting community control over water resources. Policies imposed by the World Bank, and trade liberalization rules crafted by the World Trade Organization (WTO), are creating a sweeping culture of corporate-states all over the world.

WTO - An Instrument of Neocolonisation and Corporate Takeover

Vandana Shiva

The World Trade Organisation (WTO) has provided a powerful forum for developed countries to erode the economic sovereignty of the Third World Countries including ours. Our market has been forced to open for goods and services of the multinationals particularly holders of the monopoly rights in intellectual property.
