The PGA conference is taking place in a crucial period for the people in the Balkans. The dissolution of Yugoslavia has resulted in consequent wars in the whole Balkan area. These wars have brought only death and devastation. Nowadays, people in the majority of the Balkan countries live under extremely harsh financial and social conditions.

Lebensweisen revolutionieren, Kriegszustand - Normalzustand

Krieg besteht nicht nur in tatsächlichen Kampfhandlungen, sondern in einem Zeitraum – das ist der Kriegszustand… Der Zeitraum bezeichnet also den Zustand und nicht die Schlacht.“1

Disentangling the Antiwar Movement

source: freesocietycollective.org, 14.02.2003 00:00

Disentangling the Antiwar Movement from the American Flag

Since September 11, 2001, many antiwar activists in the United States have wrapped their dissent in the American flag. In an increasingly constrictive political climate, they are anxious to find ways to appear more legitimate. For some, carrying the flag celebrates the Bill of Rights, particularly the rights to free speech and public assembly. For others, it recalls foundational events for this country such as the Boston Tea Party and American Revolution that symbolize the struggle against the tyranny of colonial rule. People of conscience raise the stars and stripes to assert that "peace is patriotic," and that they are the real Americans. The U.S. government, by contrast, claims to be waging war in order to uphold America's core values, or as Bush puts it, precisely because "we are a peace-loving nation."

NOTES:PGA -EUROPE SHUT DOWN DSEI WORKSHOP

Benjamin, 03.09.2002 17:14

Puropse of the workshop was to plan and network groups who are interested to shut down or disrupt the DSEI arms fare which will take place in Docklands, London: 6-12th Sept. 2003. DSEI is Europes's largest arms fare and one of perhaps 5 arms fares in the world on this scale.

Call to action materials need to be translated (volenteers needed).

TWO OUTSTANDING QUESTIONS: What PGA communitations network(s) are avilable to publicise the call to action? Would antimilitarist groups/networks working on the forthcoming NATO conferences in Praha and Muenchen be able to help us publicise the DSEI call to action?

The global 'war' of the transnational elite

wild dog running free, 27.08.2002 23:11

The aim of this article by TAKIS FOTOPOULOS, is to show that the so called 'war' against terrorism that was launched by the transnational elite in the aftermath of the events of September 11, like previous 'wars' of the transnational elite (Iraq, Yugoslavia), aims at securing the stabilitiy of the New World Order

De Genova a Kabul

desobed., 16.05.2002 23:10
